I can't resist letting you know that your title of the article is the title of my new book, Help Is Not a Four-Letter Word: Why Doing It All Is Doing You In published by McGraw Hill.
Coincidence? Maybe. Maybe not. In it I describe the Self-Sufficiency Syndrome where we do everything all by ourselves and can't ask for help.
However, you hit upon control. Here's what I learned. There is a huge difference between being in control and being in charge of your life. Being in control is "white-knuckled" control of everything and everybody. Out of fear. What are your fears if you didn't take control?
Being in charge is figuring out what we can control, what we can't and letting go of what we can't. THEN, we're in charge.
Hope you'll pick up a copy of my book and let me know what you think.
